“I’ve seen other ads from the ’70s and ’80s, particularly for Tonka trucks, that show girls like this–in clothes that look like they’re actually made for playing instead of making a fashion statement, and playing with toys in the same way boys would, even if it means getting dirty (gasp!). When we see ads that always show girls in pink, playing with “girl” versions of toys, or engaged in passive activities, that’s a particular marketing choice, not some inevitable, obvious way girls need to be depicted to sell products.”

“There is no such thing as a good novel that gets written in a month. (…) I’m increasingly convinced that while no great book can be written in a month, no great book can be written in a first draft, no matter how long it takes you to write it. Books are made in revision. For all three of my novels, I have deleted more than 90% of the first draft. And everything that people like about my books emerges in later drafts.” - John Green
I wholeheartedly agree. Which is why I believe it’s important to get through the first draft as quickly as possible (NaNo-style) … then I can start hacking away at the dirt for the little gold nuggets to emerge.
